Multiple intelligences and multimedia

Have you ever thought about your intelligence? Who is an intelligent person according to you? What skills do I have to possess in order to be called an intelligent person?

To be honest I have never thought about all this, nor have I discussed such things. Never before had I heard of Garner's theory on multiple intelligences but it is very interesting to know that all human beings have multiple intelligences, 9 total, each of them located in different areas.
Garner's theory is considered somehow different and his multiple intelligences theory challenged traditional beliefs in the fields of education and cognitive science. Contrary to the traditional view of intelligence, multiple intelligence approach underlines the idea that each person has a unique combination of intelligences and that the teachers will teach and asses differently by taking into consideration student's strong and weak points. It is very important that teachers develop strategies that allow for students to demonstrate multiple ways of understanding and strengthen their intelligence.
While reading about 9 (nine) types of intelligence what came into my mind was the moment when I learned the English alphabet as a song and we used to sing it in chorus.I was not good at singing but in chorus I was perfect. So the combination of different activities and different intelligences is an effective way of learning. For example we can sing the alphabet's song but if at the same time we watch the letters visually, it can be easily remembered for children to learn.
As future teachers we have to bare in mind the fact that our students possess all types of intelligences and each of them has a unique combination, so let's be careful while assessing them.We need to create the appropriate environment in order to help students to express their abilities and letting them express their feelings and opinions, too. By applying MI to the classroom we are able to understand what all students should understand and what they are not able to cope with.
During this lecture I also found out some benefits of using the MI s in school but the one that draw my attention was the one that students demonstrate work before panels and audiences and this can in turn lead to increased self- esteem.
As for the multimedia the first thing that came into my mind was that famous expression my teacher uses. " A click button controls the world and whoever controls the media controls the world too. Using multimedia means improving intelligence in different ways. It evokes creativity in both the teacher and the students and makes the learning process easier. Multimedia increases motivation and the interaction between the reader and the text
Hopefully in 2 (two) years time we will be teachers, standing in front of the class, little kids or young students who expect to learn something from us. When the time comes, I know for sure I will recall this lecture and try to get in their minds, try to assess their 9 (nine) intelligences and of course bring the best out of them.

Please feel free to ask my any question.
Thank you in advance!!👌

  9. It took me a lot of time to read your post, because of the throwbacks and this is something good. The days I was learning the alphabet through that song or even earlier when people used to call us intelligent, came back into my mind. I like the fact that you have focused on us as future teachers.
